The Men’s Pond Highgate has existed on the Heath since the 18th Century. Men have exclusively been fortunate enough to swim in the men’s pond since then. Others who may not dive into and swim in this refreshing pool can merely glimpse longingly from afar. They must envy the enjoyment of those gambolling about in the cooling waters in the men’s pond Highgate.
The use of facilities for people defined by their sex is very much a topic of these times. Marianne Nix is interested in legacy, history and time.
In this case Marianne used a photograph she took early one morning when there was a hazy sunlight. Using tools on the computer she altered the image to bring out the shapes and mood she wanted.
After mixing the ink colour to an almost black blue she inked up a sponge and carefully applied the ink to the image. She then then passed the paper plate through the hand press along with damp Somerset paper and transferred the image. After drying the print flat for several days marianne individually numbered, dated and signed the prints on the front.
